Story:

Nick Cutter married Helen Cutter but their marriage slowly fell apart, due to Helen's theories of evolutionary science. Helen dissappeared after investigating a creature sighting in the forest of Dean. Eight years later Nick, Stephen (Nick's lab assistant) and Conner Temple(One of Nick's students), went to the Forest of Dean after another creature sighting. Here Nick met Claudia Brown, who was also investigating the creature sighting for the government. Nick soon met Abby and then saw the anomaly. Nick went through the anomaly with Captain Tom Ryan of the Special Forces. They found the Permain era through the anomaly and later found a skeleton and a camera that had belonged to Helen Cutter. After returning to the Present, Nick thought he saw Helen and Stephen told Nick he had seen Helen too, after being attacked. Nick went through an anomaly in a flooded basement and met Helen in the past, she refused to come back with him so Special Forces troops brought her back, but she later escaped through another anomaly. Nick, meanwhile, was falling in love with Claudia Brown, who he kissed after they were attacked by pterasaurs at a golf course.

Helen returned in episode 6 with bad news, a future monster had come through the Permain anomaly in the Forest of Dean. Nick and Helen and a group of Special Forces troops went through the anomaly, looking for the future anomaly in the Permain. However, another future monster appeared and killed all the Special Forces Troops. When Nick returned to the Present, Helen told Cutter that she had had an affair with Stephen. Nick realised that Claudia Brown had vanished from existence. Nick realised that something he had done in the past had affected the future.

Nick found a number of differences in this differently-evolved world. Oliver Leek was Lester's assistant instead of Claudia and the whole anomaly opperation had moved from the Home Office to the ARC. After Nick returned two raptors to the past Lester introduced Nick to Jenny Lewis, who looked and sounded exactly like Claudia, but was a completely different person.
Nick continued to fight the monsters which came through the anomalies throughout series two. However, Conner and Nick were able to work out a way to tell when an anomaly appears. Nick found out that someone in the ARC was working against the main team after seeing some of Lester's men in a past anomaly. Nick, Jenny, Abby and Conner kidnapped by Oliver Leek and Helen. Leek had captured monsters from the past and future. After all the creatures escaped, Nick met Helen and Stephen. Stephen was killed by the creatures who later killed each other, while Helen vanished again and the others escaped too.

In Series 3 Nick hired Sarah Page to help with the team after she saved them all from a Pristichampus who Egyptians had thought to be Amut, one of their Gods. Cutter was killed when Helen invaded the ARC with an army of clones, thanks to a clone of Nick. The Clone set fire to the ARC, while Nick who had stolen a mysterious artefact from Helen rescues Helen, who shoots him in the chest believing it to be the only way to stop the future predators evolving. Nick is replaced as team leader by Danny Quin.
